Everyone is aware that the media has an increasing significance, but that it is increasingly difficult to communicate via the media in a controlled fashion. This requires knowledge and experience of the media landscape, the forces at play, and the usual protocol for communicating with the media. Naturally, everybody strives to achieve maximum exposure on one’s own terms, to avoid undesired attention, and to be able to direct focus to the appropriate issues.
